Healthy Schools Status
On 12th July 2016, the Academy was awarded Healthy Schools Status.
The status is awarded according to a school meeting the following:
- Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) - 13 criteria.
- Healthy Eating - 11 criteria.
- Physical Activity - 10 criteria.
- Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health (including staff wellbeing) - 9 criteria.
School Food Plan
As part of the School Food Plan, a new set of standards were launched by the DfE and came into effect from January 2015. Although not mandatory, the Academy has signed up to the School Food Standards to demonstrate its continued commitment to the health and wellbeing of its pupils.

In April 2016, Year 9 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition pupils were set the challenge of creating a new dish for the Academy canteen. The competition was judged by Mr. N. Houchen, Mrs. N. Lillywhite and Mr. A. Williams. The winning savoury dish was Pizza Bagels and sweet potato fries created by Evie Anderson and Felicity Galbally and the winning sweet dish was banana and blueberry muffins created by Paige Livesey and Sinead Collins.
